ABC Radio (the Australian equivalent of the BBC) has a programme called The Health Report. In December 2008 the programme focused on children with speech & language problems. The programme is called Gap Kids, referring to children who ‘fall through the gap’ between different educational services.

From our experience this problem is common in the UK as well. The Sound Learning Centre has the treatments that can help children with speech and language problems through Sound Therapy.

If you fear your child is a Gap Kid, then please contact us for helpful friendly advice.

An article by Pauline Allen appeared in the respected Positive Health Magazine on sound therapies.

Sound therapy helps to re-educate the auditory system and, although independent research assessments have not been carried out to validate its effectiveness, the Society of Auditory Integration Techniques (SAIT) has published its own theories, and the findings of Dr Bérard, creator of AIT, are cited from his book Hearing Equals Behavior, to illustrate his success in treating ENT patients with dyslexia, depression and autism.

The Sound Learning Centre was featured on the ‘Inside Out – surprising stories, familiar places’ regional current affairs programme on BBC ONE on 19 September 2005. The BBC followed clients from first contact with the Centre, during Sound and Light treatment, right through to the final results. The Myomancy ADD/ADHD, Autism and Dyslexia website has more details.

During October 2004, the Programme ‘You and Yours’ on BBC Radio 4 featured the six most useful interventions that have been applied in cases of autism. We were featured on Monday 4 October and again specifically on Wednesday 13 October in respect of Auditory Integration Training (AIT). During the programme you can hear an interview with Pauline Allen as well as an 8 year old child and her mother who talk about their experience and the results of treatment. These programmes can be heard and downloaded from the BBC Radio 4 website, down the page under Autism Interventions.
